With the prevalence of the electronic health record (EHR), the process of prescribing medication has changed in many ways. Some of the changes have been very beneficial, but others have increased risks. The use of drop-down menus requires the prescriber to be precise in choosing the correct medication and dose. Medical malpractice claims have also revealed situations involving bypassing system alerts, look-alike/sound-alike drugs, prescribing in handoffs of care, and office prescribing practices. These situations and others have been implicated in adverse events related to EHR medication prescribing. To help providers avoid some of these prescribing pitfalls, LAMMICO is offering a complimentary webinar for insureds titled “Prescribing in the Year 2020 & Beyond” presented by Kenneth E. Rhea, M.D., FASHRM.
