LAMMICO recently awarded medical school scholarships to this past year’s incoming freshman classes. For nearly 20 years, medical students have used funds presented by LAMMICO to help defray tuition and other expenses at all of Louisiana’s medical schools.
We congratulate the following recipients who have been honored for the 2019 medical school year:
Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans
Alex Miller graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and a Master of Science degree from Mississippi College. A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Miller has spent much time volunteering at a medical clinic in Honduras, aptly named the “Jungle Hospital.” He loved how each day at the hospital brought new challenges and experiences, and Miller looks forward to becoming a physician to provide high-quality healthcare to those who need healing.
Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport
Pranav Bhargava graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. A native of Alexandria, Louisiana, Bhargava has worked as an assistant at the Pineville Children’s Clinic and as an emergency room technician at Rapides Regional Hospital. He has also volunteered more than 250 hours of service helping coordinate numerous cultural events in his local Indian community center.
Tulane University School of Medicine
Hunter F. Douglas graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Science degree in physiology from Tulane University. He has performed extensive cardiovascular research at both Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Tulane University, which has been published numerous times and presented at international conferences.
